We stayed at the W Taipei! It’s just a 2-minute walk from MRT City Hall Station, right in the heart of Taipei’s Xinyi District — surrounded by Taipei 101, shopping malls, and great restaurants.
We booked a Fabulous Room and were lucky enough to get one with a Taipei 101 view! At 46m², the room was incredibly spacious and comfortable.
The breakfast buffet was a highlight — Taiwanese dishes like xiaolongbao alongside Western options, plus tropical fruits you can only get in Taiwan. There’s also an outdoor pool, making it a great choice for families with kids!

How to Get to W Taipei
By MRT: Take the Bannan Line (Blue Line) to “City Hall Station” and use Exit 2 — the hotel is about a 2-minute walk. Incredibly convenient!
From the airport: Taipei Songshan Airport is about 15 minutes by car. From Taoyuan International Airport, take the MRT to Taipei Main Station, transfer to the Bannan Line, and get off at City Hall Station.
Check-In
The W Taipei is a 31-storey hotel with 405 rooms. The lobby has that signature W Hotel vibe — sleek, stylish, and modern.
Taipei 101 and the Uni-Ustyle department store are right next door, so you can easily pop out for shopping or sightseeing before or after check-in.
The staff were really friendly and flexible — when we mentioned we were traveling with a child, they were very accommodating.
Nearby Malls, Convenience Stores & Pharmacies
The Xinyi District is Taipei’s premier shopping area, and the W Taipei is right in the thick of it. The hotel is directly connected to the Uni-Ustyle department store (floors B2 to 7), which has restaurants and shops — incredibly convenient.
Within walking distance, you’ll find Taipei 101 Mall, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (four buildings, all connected underground), ATT 4 FUN, and Breeze Center. Din Tai Fung is in the basement of Taipei 101 — perfect for a xiaolongbao run.
There are plenty of 7-Elevens and FamilyMarts nearby, so you’ll never be stuck for supplies. Drugstores like Watsons and COSMED are also in the area — handy for picking up toothbrushes and toiletries since Taiwan hotels no longer provide them.
Our Stay in a Fabulous Room

We stayed in a Fabulous Room — a generous 46m²! That’s significantly larger than most city hotel rooms in Japan, and it felt really spacious.
We were lucky enough to get a room with a Taipei 101 view! Seeing that iconic tower right from the window was such a thrill. This would be an amazing room for New Year’s Eve — imagine watching the countdown fireworks from your bed!
The floor-to-ceiling windows create a wonderfully open feel, and the interior is modern and stylish — exactly what you’d expect from a W Hotel. There’s a sofa and daybed for lounging, which we really appreciated.
In-Room Amenities
The minibar area (W Mix Bar) features a Nespresso machine with several capsule varieties — plus TWG tea and Japanese green tea, all complimentary.
The fridge was stocked with soft drinks, beer, and wine, though these are chargeable.
Bathroom

The bathroom has a washing area, but the design is open-plan — there’s no door separating it from the bedroom. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the water pressure and drainage were both fine.
Important: No Disposable Toiletries in Taiwan!
A heads-up that’s easy to miss: since January 2025, Taiwan has banned the free provision of single-use toiletries at hotels as part of a government environmental policy.
This means there are no toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, or shower caps in your room. Shampoo and body wash are provided via wall-mounted refillable dispensers, but personal-care items need to be brought from home.
You can buy these at convenience stores and drugstores around Taipei, but to avoid any hassle on your first night, we’d recommend packing them in advance.
By the way, our room did have cotton pads provided — this might vary by room, but it was a nice little surprise.
Breakfast Buffet

Breakfast is served at “Seasons,” the hotel’s buffet restaurant. It’s a full buffet with a great mix of Taiwanese and Western dishes.

The standout for us was the xiaolongbao (soup dumplings)! Only in Taiwan can you get piping hot, juicy xiaolongbao at a hotel breakfast buffet. Such a treat. The shrimp fried rice was also delicious…! We stayed for two nights, but it wasn’t on the menu on our third morning — so it seems the dishes rotate daily.

The pastry section was well stocked with danishes, and there was even anpan (Japanese sweet red bean bread) — a fun surprise to find overseas!

The tropical fruit selection was incredible — watermelon, starfruit, melon, pineapple, and passion fruit. A truly Taiwanese breakfast experience.

There were also gluten-free bread and chocolate cake options — thoughtful for guests with dietary restrictions. Plus Nutella, gummy candies, and other fun extras that kids love.

And here’s one that made our daughter’s day — Häagen-Dazs ice cream at breakfast! She was absolutely thrilled.
Toward the back, there was a noodle station with what appeared to be Taiwanese-style noodle dishes. If you’re feeling adventurous, definitely give it a try!
Outdoor Pool

The W Taipei has an outdoor pool. It’s supposedly heated, but it felt a bit cold on the day we visited — your mileage may vary depending on the weather and season!
There are lifeguards on duty, which gave us peace of mind. There’s also a shallow pool section, so younger kids can enjoy it too.
Inflatable floats aren’t allowed, but you can borrow kickboards. Bath towels are provided poolside.
As for changing rooms: there are changing facilities in the fitness area, and they can be used by pool guests. However, children are not allowed in the fitness area, so if you’re with kids, you’ll need to change in your hotel room. There’s also no swimsuit spin-dryer — we just wrapped our wet swimsuits in a towel and brought them back to the room. Having a room on a floor close to the pool would be handy.
Final Thoughts
Our stay at the W Taipei was fantastic — we loved the Taipei 101 view from our room! The location is unbeatable at just 2 minutes from the MRT station, making it an ideal base for exploring Taipei.
The breakfast buffet exceeded our expectations with its Taiwanese specialties and tropical fruits. The pool is a nice bonus for families, especially with the shallow section for little ones.
Just remember to bring your own toiletries — Taiwan’s new environmental policy means hotels no longer provide disposable amenities!
