Oakwood Residence Thong Lo Review: Is It Worth It for a Bangkok Family Stay?

Are you a family traveling to Bangkok and looking for a hotel that feels like a home away from home? Finding the perfect accommodation can be one of the most stressful parts of planning a trip with kids. You want a place that’s not just comfortable, but also safe, convenient, and has something to keep your little ones entertained. That’s exactly what my family and I were looking for when we booked our stay at the Oakwood Residence Sukhumvit Thong Lo Bangkok with our five-year-old daughter in March 2025. After a wonderful trip, I can confidently say that this serviced apartment-style hotel is an excellent choice for families.

Overall, our experience at the Oakwood Residence Sukhumvit Thong Lo Bangkok was fantastic, and we highly recommend it for families with young children who appreciate the convenience of apartment living.

Pros and Cons for Families

The Oakwood Residence Sukhumvit Thong Lo offers a unique blend of hotel services and apartment living. Here’s a quick overview of what we loved and what we thought could be improved from a family perspective.

Pros:

  • Spacious and Well-Equipped Rooms: The serviced apartment layout with a full kitchen, a washing machine, and separate living and dining areas was a game-changer for a family with a five-year-old.
  • Convenient Location: Being a short walk from J Avenue was incredibly useful. We had easy access to a supermarket, Japanese restaurants, McDonald’s, and even a Daiso 100-yen shop.
  • Kid-Friendly Amenities: The small playground with a slide and swings on the premises was a big hit with our daughter, offering a simple way to burn off some energy without leaving the hotel grounds.
  • Helpful Staff: The staff were attentive and accommodating to our family’s needs, always providing prompt and friendly service.
  • On-site Convenience: Having a kitchen and washing machine meant we could prepare simple meals and do laundry, which is a huge plus for longer stays with children. The supermarket nearby also sold baby products, which is a lifesaver.

Cons:

  • Limited Breakfast Variety: While the breakfast buffet was sufficient, the selection was a bit limited. We stayed for two nights and noticed a small change in the menu, but it wasn’t a vast spread.
  • Weak Dryer Function: Depending on the room, the built-in dryer function of the washing machine wasn’t very effective. Since we couldn’t use the dryer function on its own, we brought our own clothesline and hung our clothes to dry in the room.
  • No Kids’ Club or Designated Playroom: The outdoor playground is great, but there isn’t an indoor kids’ club or a larger, dedicated play area for children, which some families might look for, especially on rainy days.
